How to Travel?

By plane

The easiest way to get to Istanbul is by plane. Turkish Airlines and many other world airlines have regular daily flights to Istanbul.

Istanbul has two international airports: Ataturk International Airport on the European side and Sabiha Gökçen International Airport on the Asian side.

By bus or car

Istanbul is well connected to many European cities by highways. You can drive to Istanbul from any European city with your private car or motorbike. If you would like to visit Turkey this way, you have to pass one of those two borders: Ipsala border coming from Greece or Kapıkule in Edirne coming from Bulgaria.

There are also private bus companies that run buses regularly to Istanbul from many European countries such as Germany, Switzerland, Austria France, Romania and Bulgaria. Istanbul has mainly two central bus stations; Harem Bus Station located on the Asian side and Esenler Bus Station one on the European side.

By train

The train connection between Turkey and European countries is provided by Bosphorus Express operating daily and reciprocally between Istanbul-Bucarest-Istanbul and Dostluk/Filia Express between Istanbul-Thessalonica-Istanbul. Istanbul-Sofia connection and Istanbul-Belgrad connection are provided by the wagons hitched onto the Bosphorus Express. There is also railway connection between Turkey-Iran, Iraq and Syria.

International trains arrive at Sirkeci station on the European side, or Haydarpasa station on the Asian side of Istanbul depending on where you are coming from.

By ferry

There are several maritime companies that run car and passenger ferries from Greece or from Italy to Turkey. Most of these arrive to Istanbul. If you would like to come from the Black Sea, there is also a regular ferry line between Ukraine (Odessa) and Istanbul.
