Public transportation in Istanbul
As a city of over 12 million people, Istanbul has its share of traffic madness. But since all our venues and hotels are fairly close to one another, this should not constitute a problem for the conference attendees. The easiest way to get around between short distances is by taxi. All taxis have taximeters, and the rates are reasonable – just make sure the meter opens at 2,50 TL (approximate exchange rates are 1 Euro = 2 Turkish Lira, 1 USD = 1,50 Turkish Lira). If you prefer to use the public transportation system, here are a few guidelines.
For buses, trams and the subway, single fare is 1.50 TL. Some buses have a designated ticket-seller on board, on all others, you can pay the driver directly. For trams or the subway, you need to buy tokens at the entrance.
Public transportation to Kadir Has University
The university is located on the Golden Horn, Haliç in Turkish. The exact neighborhood is Cibali. Just tell the taxi driver or ask your hotel receptionist. Nearly all the events are in the D-Block, the new building closest to the Unkapanı Bridge.
From Taksim Square to Kadir Has University
Taksim Square is quite big and there are a number of bus stops. The one you need is on the North side of the square, at Cumhuriyet Cad. and Lamartin Cad. (no-traffic street), right across the street from McDonalds. From there, you can take the buses which stop at UNKAPANI (Oon-cup-ah-neh). You will get off at the first stop after crossing the Golden Horn, you should be able to spot the university to the right when you are on the bridge. If you take a 55T, it will drop you off in front of the school. If you take any other line, it’s a 150 m. walk.
If you take a taxi from your hotel, it should cost about 7-8 TL.
From Sultanahmet to Kadir Has University
Sultanahmet area is about 35 minutes walk from the university, and it can be a nice stroll through the historic town. The only public transportation in the area is the tram, which you can take until Eminönü (Kabataş direction). From there, it’s a 10-15 minutes walk or a short taxi drive to the university. If you do walk, there is an underpass that goes under the highway that connects to the bridge right before the university.
Taking a taxi from Sultanahmet is the most convenient way, but as some drivers can be less reliable than we would like, we would advise you to walk to the Four Seasons Hotel and take a taxi from their entrance. It should cost about 6-7 TL and you should not be crossing any bridges.
